Last year, November, the user, imflameyyyyy (henceforth, Julien) and I (henceforth, Joshua) decided that we were going to set ourselves a task that hasn't gotten much attention in lost media circles: We would attempt to list, and archive all of "The Garfield Shorts" / "Garfield tout court". If you're unaware of what these are, these were a series of short-form content which would accompany episodes of The Garfield Show, and if you want a rundown, you can read about them here. You can read week 1 here, and week 2 here.

If you'd like to see the total progress of archiving so far, please visit Julien and my YouTube channel, Garfield Ho. Thank you!

Welcome to week 3! Admittedly, this has been a very quiet week, but it hasn't been without its findings.

This week is March 16th, 2024 - March 23rd, 2024.

UPDATE: Official Production Numbers[]

A big discovery, but with a slight setback.

Essentially, if you were to look at the edit made to the list of shorts, indeed, most shorts now have their official numbers, which is great. However, last week, I predicted that all should be found by today. The problem? No, no they were not. The reason for this is that even though the method I've used is quick at searching copious amounts of links, to find these shorts is still a ton of effort as everything is completely random. A day could only turn up 3 or 4 unique links, and now that there's so few needed now, that amount decreases.

At this point, I've stopped searching due to its time-consuming nature, but I will resume them eventually, and hopefully, find the rest.

As of writing, these are the numbers I have and need:

  • Season 1 : 25/26 links have been found, but the season is complete.
  • Season 2 : 28/28 links have been found.
  • Season 3 : 26/30 or 31 links have been found.
  • Season 4 : 36/50 or 49 links have been found. However, educated guesses helps a ton.

Of the 'educated guesses' I refer to in the S4 section, I've found enough links to surmise the following:

  • 85 - 86 = Non-Special Songs (Adopte un vrai chat & C'est mon anniversaire)
  • 87 - 93 = Lion Queen Songs
  • 94 - 99 = Bewitched Songs
  • 100 - 106 = Mean Machine Songs
  • 107 - 111 = Glitter Gulch Songs
  • 112 - 118 = Against All Tides Songs
  • 119 - 124 = Lasagna Tree Songs
  • 125 - 132 = Into the Wild Songs
  • 133 - 134 = Non-Special Songs (meaning at least one is "La réclame te réclame")

One good example is "J'aime rien" (Bad Boy). While I don't have its link, I do happen to have every other Lion Queen link, and the two around them. What I mean is:
Je suis un vrai chat = 86
Bienvenue en Afrique = 87
Chat balance = 88
Frères babouins = 89
? = 90
La mélodie du zoo = 91
La vie au grand air = 92
Le chat des chats = 93
Arbores Sunt / La sorcière = 94 Thus, it's easy to guess that 90 has to be J'aime rien.

Curiosity: Different Seasons, Different Lyrics[]

Something I found out last week but forwent mentioning was that the same song in different seasons is necessarily... the same.

The lyrics for Vito Vita Pasta is different per the season. While largely the same, there are some differences. One for instance, is that S3 contains 'e anche la pizza nel forno' as opposed to S4's 'e anche la pizza al pomodoro'. The song is not particularly good either way, but I digress.

A step further was this week's Le chat des chat (Ultimate Cat). The S4 version, which is featured in Lion Queen is obviously sung by Garfield... S3 is sung by Nermal with adjusted lyrics.

Just something interesting.

Curiosity: Singers Part II[]

Ironically, I'm bringing "Vito Vita Pasta" up again, this time the recently archived S4 variant. First, there's some important background information regarding the French releases:

The singer for the season 3 short is Marc Saez. He's the French voice of Vito, and we know that it's him singing in that short as he himself uploaded it to his Vimeo page. However, in the French dub of The Mean Machine, the song is sung by Emiliano Reggente, notably the same singer featured in the English version, and Vito's Italian VA.

Alright, here's where it gets interesting: The S4 short of "Vito Vita Pasta"... features Marc Saez again, not Emiliano Reggente. This possibly hints at the short's English version being sung by Jason Marsden, which is kinda exciting.

Discoveries of the Week[]

Summary[]

Quieter week overall. We found however:

And that's all for this week. I reckon that we should likely expect less activity and exciting finds over the next few weeks, but I hope I'm wrong. Goodbye!
