True Colors (FRFlag Chat noir chat blanc) is the 44thUS/EU episode from the second season of The Garfield Show.

Synopsis[]

Garfield was about to learn who stole the Klopman Diamond when the TV broke down. Jon calls the repairman, but the repairs shall take a few days. In order to satisfy Garfield, Jon gets his grandmother's old TV set from the garage. Garfield gets it to work, but the only show emitted on every channel is Dr. Goody-good, a show Jon used to watch in his youth years.

Plot[]

Dr

Garfield is watching a mystery show about a person, who stole the jewelry. Just as the inspector is about to determine the culprit, the TV set breaks down much to Garfield's dismay. The cat blows the "TV is broken" alarm, which focuses Jon's attention. Jon sends the TV set for repair and temporarily substitutes it with an old-pattern black-and-white television set previously owned by his grandmother. Garfield decides to try it out and watches a puppet show starring Dr. Goody-Good. At one moment, Nermal interrupts the show. The kitten asks Garfield to help him in directing a movie about himself. Instead of obtaining desired help, Garfield throws him out of the house. Nermal lands inside a garbage can as a "spontaneous live-action start".

Upon returning to continue the show, Garfield is surprised when he finds out that Dr. Goody-Good can actually see him and hear him outside the TV set (something which Jon was told about by his grandmother when he was a child). Dr. Goody-Good scolds Garfield for the way he mistreated Nermal, despite Garfield attempts to convince the puppet about Nermal being a bad cat. Goody strips Garfield of his colors as punishment, therefore rendering him completely grey. Dr. Goody Good says he will only return Garfield his colors if Garfield performs three good deeds.

For a starter, Garfield elects to wander around the city doing good deeds to people. He helps an elderly woman cross the street and saves an obese man, who is eating ice cream, from a nearby falling piano (albeit the second one only got Garfield injured since he was the one to be crushed by the piano). After recovery, Garfield sees that most of his colors have returned to his regular palette, except his head retaining the grey color cast by Goody. Being aware that he still has one good deed to perform, Garfield climbs up a building to search for additional people that need help. After a brief search, he spots a nearby alley where he witnesses Nermal being attacked by wild stray dogs. Despite being initially reluctant due to his dislike for Nermal, Garfield decides to save him anyway feeling that "a good deed is a good deed, even if it's for Nermal".

Unfortunately, Garfield's intervention only made the dogs redirect their attacks upon him instead of Nermal. After the dogs viciously beat him up, Garfield discovers that his head has also regained its natural color. Nermal does not express gratitude - instead, he makes remarks how stupid Garfield's actions were. Garfield excitedly runs back to his house to thank Dr. Goody-Good. Upon arrival, he sees the original TV set has been fixed, for Jon and Odie are watching a program on TV. Jon tells Garfield that his grandmother's TV set is being taken away by the repairmen. Garfield attempts in vain to catch up to their truck to speak to Dr. Goody-Good, but the plan fails. He sadly returns home and Jon shows him that the puppeteer of Dr. Goody-Good is long retired, when an examination made on computer is made. As the trio leave the room, Garfield thanks Dr. Goody-Good for teaching him a lesson about sharing. Unbeknownst to Garfield, the image of Dr. Goody-Good on the computer replies saying Garfield did well.
