The Wright Stuff is an episode from the sixth season of Garfield and Friends.
Synopsis[]
Garfield tells the story of the Wright Brothers and their cat.
Plot[]
Garfield is telling the history of great inventors and how they were inspired by their cats; such as John Logie Baird building the world's first television, and Elisha Otis for inventing the elevator. This was to benefit their feline friends more than anything else. One cat Garfield recalls for being a true inspiration for invention was McKinley, the cat of the Wright Brothers.
In Kitty Hawk, North Carolina, 1903, Orville and Wilbur Wright attended the unveiling of the moving picture. This astounded them and left them wondering if it was possible for other miracles, such as being able to fly. This led to them beginning to create the world's first airplane, all while their cat was left hungry. Despite their ingenuity and determination, Orville and Wilbur had trouble on getting the plane to work.
Tired of going hungry, McKinley decided to work on the plane and see if he can get it fly. He and the family dog tried everything until the propeller started spinning. This caused the plane to take off; this is due to the fact that McKinley weighed less than Orville and Wilbur. McKinley had trouble steering and started chasing his owners around the field until he finally got it to take off and became the very non-avian creature to take flight.
Their invention a success, Orville and Wilbur became famous, McKinley was well fed, and aerial transportation revolutionized throughout the years, although they have not improved on their in-flight meals.
