Overview

The Six-Can Solution (FRFlag Qui crie au chat) is the 41stUS/EU episode from the fourth season of The Garfield Show.

Synopsis[]

Squeak offers to help Garfield clear his name after being accused of eating six cans of cat food per day.

Plot[]

Squeak quickly comes on the show after being reminded that he is on the air. He notes that he will be narrating much of the episode because it kind of focuses around him. The mouse goes back tens days when the story started.

After going through the monthly bills with Jon, Liz concludes that Jon is spending too much for Garfield especially after seeing Garfield buying so many pizzas from Vito. When Garfield goes on the scale Liz brought, the scale says the cat is overweight. Liz tells Jon that Garfield needs to go on a diet as it will make him lose weight and he will not have to pay so much. Although Jon is reluctant, Liz decides to call her financial advisor cousin Hector to help. Since he needs to place to stay until his apartment is finished, Jon agrees to let him in to help.

Once there, Hector takes away all the food from the kitchen to hide it somewhere and refuses to feed Garfield until the proper time much to Garfield's dismay. Garfield though eventually learns to live with Hector's new rules. One day, Hector notices that six cans of cat food from Jon's emergency crate of canned cat food have gone missing. Over time, six more cans of cat food disappear over the course of 3 days from the crate with all fingers pointing toward Garfield. Even though he proclaims he is innocent, everyone except for Odie decide to take his midnight snack away as punishment for stealing the food. Odie however, feeling sorry for Garfield decides to give him his midnight snack secretly.

Wanting to clear his name, Garfield tries to figure out who could have stolen cat food from the basement. After going through some suspects, Garfield confront Squeak and Irv since they sneak into the basement as well along with Jon, Odie, Hector and himself. The two mice however admit that they did not steal the cans either but they decide to help Garfield by finding the thief. For the next few days, Squeak and Irv go around the neighborhood survey the neighbors and the cats to see if any of them stole the cat food, none of them were likely suspects. Eventually Squeak decides that in order to catch the culprit, he needed to disguise himself as a can of cat food and grabs an empty can from the trash to disguise himself.

Later that night in the basement, Squeak in the empty can waits by hoping to catch the thief red-handed. Much to his surprise, the thief turns out to be Odie who takes the cans toward the house where Squeak found the empty can. It is revealed that Odie came across a mother cat and her kittens a few weeks ago. They were cared for by a little girl who had no food for them and hid them in the garage since her mother was allergic to cats. The girl was supposed to take them to an animal shelter, but she could not find herself to do it.

The next morning, Jon, Liz and Hector apologize to Garfield for accusing him of the theft and Odie confessed that he stole the cans late at night because he was afraid Hector would refuse to let him take it. Hector decides to adopt the cat family since he has room in his apartment for them and tells the girl that she can visit them since the house and the apartment are close. With that, Squeak concludes the story and Garfield says he owes him big for doing such a good thing. Squeak admits what he did was good, but it was nothing compared to how Odie cared for those kittens.
