Overview

The Second Penelope Episode is the third segment from the ninety seventh episode of the sixth season of Garfield and Friends.

Synopsis[]

A cat named Lorelei attempts to steal Garfield from Penelope.

Plot[]

Garfield and Penelope are walking down the street, planning how to spend today's evening. When Penelope says her catchphrase "I don't care what we do, just as long as we do it together", Garfield suggests watching the new "Kung Fu Creatures" movie. The idea doesn't impress Penelope, despite Garfield explaining that this particular motion picture contains subtitles.

Their plans are interrupted by a dogcatcher's van nearly running them over. Fortunately, the cats manage to jump from the road and land on the ground beneath. Penelope is initially suffering from concussion. When she recovers, she asks Garfield what happened. Garfield explains that they had to flee from the dogcatcher, who also grabs cats. After the explanation, Penelope shows her gratitude for Garfield saving her by asking him to meet her momma. Garfield doesn't feel well about this. However, Lorelei interrupts them trying to charm Garfield. The French cat commits a faux pas, when she mistakes Penelope for Garfield's niece. Penelope becomes irritated: first she states that she is Garfield's actual date, then she insists that Garfield go with her to the movie she was reluctant to see earlier. Then Lorelei declares "Yes, I hope you'll enjoy your last date" and laughs.

In the next scene, Garfield and Penelope travel to a drive-in movie theater to watch the Kung Fu Monsters movie. The Drive-In Movie Theater guard lets the cats pass, since they took a place on a car's roof. Garfield asks Penelope if relocating the loudspeaker closer to the cats is better. Penelope seems to be enjoying the date, while Garfield tries, without success, to snatch pizza from the delivery girl. The appearance of Lorelei annoys the drive-in guard, and he calls the animal shelter for intervention while Lorelei is looking for Garfield. Meanwhile, Penelope is so pleased with the date that she cuddles warmly with Garfield and tells him again that she wants him to meet her momma. This suggestion frightens Garfield, who believes that Penelope wants to marry him. Thus, he excuses himself by officially looking for food, and jumps off the car roof. Penelope first tells Garfield to hurry up, but is then skeptical about his return.

While walking between cars in the drive-in movie theater, Garfield is pondering what Penelope told him about meeting her mother, until he meets up with Lorelei again. She expects him to ask her for anything, so Garfield asks in his usual manner for the refreshment stand and tries to leave. Lorelei snatches him and starts ticking his chin, which makes Garfield feel comforted. Meanwhile, Penelope is walking between the cars and calling Garfield, until she stumbles upon Lorelei holding Garfield and tickling his chin. The scene makes Penelope burst into tears and run away with a broken heart. Garfield realizes that he has made the wrong choice and chooses Penelope, which drives Lorelei mad. Garfield doesn't care much about this and he flees to search for Penelope. Lorelei finds Garfield's lack of stable emotions to be childish (as evidenced by calling him "kitten") and declares that someday she will find herself a real man before she leaves.

Meanwhile, Penelope abandons the drive-in contemplating her sorrow caused by Garfield's betrayal. While confused over what she thought about Garfield and what Garfield thought about her, Penelope gets caught by the previously summoned dogcatcher. In despair, she calls Garfield for help. Her date hears her voice and realizes that Penelope has been caught. Garfield repairs his mistake by using the movie camera against the dogcatcher. The trick works surprisingly well - when Penelope's captor sees a Kung Fu monster in front of his van, he gets so frightened that he crashes the van against a billboard and flees in panic, yelling that Kung-Fu creatures are attacking him. Then, Garfield approaches the immobilized van, where Penelope keeps calling him. Garfield opens its door, and Penelope leaps into his arms while calling Garfield "a hero". Garfield helps Penelope reach the ground and he takes her home.

While taking Penelope home, she ask Garfield if Lorelei ("the French cat") means anything to him. Garfield denies that, so Penelope again asks Garfield to meet her momma. Before Garfield completes his excuse, the cats reach the destination. It turns out, that Penelope's Momma is a pizzeria owner, despite Garfield being convinced she would be Penelope's actual mother. The Momma offers Penelope and Garfield a meal, Penelope asks Garfield what is wrong, then he is about to fall on his back, but Penelope catches him. Garfield asks Penelope to tickle his chin in the pizzeria, just like Lorelei did in the drive-in.

The episode ends with Penelope holding Garfield in her arms and tickling his chin. Garfield states that this has been the best day of his life.
