The Last Word is the fiftieth episode from the first season of The Garfield Show.

Synopsis

Garfield growling

Nermal places a bet with Garfield to go an hour without eating food.

Plot

Garfield is watching TV and eating food in the living room. Nermal claims all he does is eat. Garfield denies and says he can stop eating whenever he wants. Nermal bets he can't survive an hour without eating, if Garfield loses, he has to be Nermal's slave for a week; if he wins, Nermal won't step foot in Jon's house for a month. Garfield accepts. The bet starts at exactly 11:00. To avoid temptation, Garfield put all of his food in the kicthen, yet only one minute has passed. He watches TV to kill time, but all of shows he finds have to do with food. Nermal tempts him with a piece of popcorn on the ground, and points out only 5 minutes have passed, Garfield runs upstairs and goes to sleep. Soon, he goes downstairs upon smelling lasagna. He sees the lasagna and goes out to scream and goes back in.  He rejects his piece and Jon gives it to Nermal, and he eats it, making Garfield jealous. Garfield hears everyone's loud chewing noises and shoves bananas in his ears, but doesn't work. He crawls out the kitchen and sees it's 11:45. Odie comes out. Garfield starts to have hallucinations and thinks he's a giant hot dog and chases him. Then Nermal comes out and Garfield thinks he's a giant cupcake. Garfield hears something and finds out it's the refrigerator tempting him to open itself. Garfield ties it up. Several foods start to talk and tempts Garfield to eat them, then basically everything in the kitchen starts to talk. At this time the clock hits 12:00. Garfield realizes he's won and starts eating like crazy. Nermal tells Garfield he won't come for a month. Garfield's stomach starts to ache. At the pet hospital, Liz checks Garfield and thinks he's just having indigestion and tells Jon to not feed him anything solid for the next 24 hours. Back at Jon's house, Nermal tempts Garfield with a chocolate popsicle outside the window. Garfield yells, "CHOCOLATE!"
