The Coyotes first appeared in Garfield into the Wild: Ugly Coyotes.
The Coyotes are a fierce quartet of predators whom Garfield, Odie, Nermal, and teenage singer Celest meet in the desert. They are led by a Kawoosa, a terrifying coyote who demands to test Odie's bravery or else they will not be allowed to escape the desert.
Kawoosa[]
Kawoosa is the leader of the pack. He is intimidating, ferocious, and does not take too kindly to cats, like Garfield, or humans for that matter. He is furious at Odie for traveling with Garfield, Nermal, and Celest, mistaken him as a fellow coyote and demands that Odie show his courage or else he and the pack will not let Odie and the others leave. Garfield steps in and shows Kawoosa how courageous Odie is by showing the coyote old clips from the prior episodes of Into the Wild. Kawoosa is impressed, to the point of calling Odie a brother, and howls with him. He reveals that he is a fan of Celest's singing and he and the pack help Garfield and the others on their journey to Celest's concert. While there, he and his pack sing backup vocals and eventually get signed on to make more music and movies in Hollywood.
The Pack[]
The members of Kawoosa's pack do not have known names. There are two males and a female; none of them say much, as they are more background characters to Kawoosa. They are also impressed with Odie when Garfield shows them what they have been through the episodes prior. Celest offers to bring them to her concert. One of them recognizes her and they all go to the concert together, the coyotes pulling a wagon to save time. Like Kawoosa, the pack sings backup howls and go off to Hollywood to produce more music and to star in movies.
