Planet of Poultry ( Chapons partout) is the 17thUS/6thEU episode from the second season of The Garfield Show.

Synopsis[]

The owner of a fast food chain in outer space has developed a raygun with the power to transform any organism into a chicken. As he intends to use it on all Earthlings, it is up to Garfield to save the world.

Plot[]

Garfield has just woken up from a nap, and addressing the audience, claims to have just rescued the planet. Retelling the events, he reveals that out in space, there exists an incredibly popular fast food chain called "Neptunian Nuclear Chicken". The chain is owned by Commander Harlin, a ruthless businessman set on opening even more restaurants across the universe, though his assistant insists that there is not enough chicken to ensure doing so. However, traveling to Earth, Harlin reveals to his assistant that he has developed a ray to transform the inhabitants of Earth into chickens. Meanwhile, Jon and his pets are dining at Vito's.

First testing the device on Vito's delivery boy, they soon set the raygun to shoot at all living beings within the city. In spite of the working raygun, Harlin reveals that the only possible exception to ray's working is if someone were to ingest "an inhuman quantity" of ricotta, tomato paste, and pasta at the moment they were struck, of which Garfield happens to conveniently be doing. As predicted, while the ray does not affect Garfield, Jon, Odie, and Vito are all turned into chickens, sending Garfield running out the restaurant in a panic. He finds that across the city and now state, every organism has been transformed into a chicken.

Contemplating how it can get worse, Garfield sees and travels to a giant egg-shaped spaceship that is landed in the park, where he overhears Harlin and his assistant talking that they will use corn to lure the chickens onto the spacecraft, whereof they will be fried. Garfield attempts to sneak past them to board the craft while dressed up as a chicken, but his allergy to feathers outs him, and he flees aboard the ship with Harlin chasing behind.

Eventually, Harlin traps Garfield at a dead end. As Harlin fires the raygun to transform Garfield, the beam happens to hit glass, thereby reflecting it and turning Harlin himself into a chicken. His assistant, having run out of chicken to eat, captures chicken Harlin with the intention of frying him up. In desperation, Harlin makes a deal with Garfield that in return for freeing him, he will transform everyone back and leave the planet. Harlin keeps his end of the deal, and Garfield finishes the story there, noting that while mostly everything has returned to normal, Jon inexplicably lays an egg every now and then.
