Pirate Gold ( Chasse au trésor) is the 38thUS/37thEU episode from the second season of The Garfield Show.
Synopsis[]
It's a rainy day over Jon Arbuckle's house. A perfect day for watching pirate movies. Garfield's imagination soon takes over and the house becomes a pirate ship, weathering through the storm. With Squeak as his first mate, Odie as his crew member Odie the Nose, Captain Garfield is on a hunt for treasure.
Plot[]
The episode begins with a cloudy day in the neighborhood. Jon is dressing at home in trenchcoat and hat, for he is about to leave. The refrigerator at home requires mending, therefore Jon attempts to fix it himself. Odie does not know, where the manual is. Jon spots it on the dresser under the window. While grabbing the manual, Jon hears Garfield watching a pirate movie in television. The cat is visibly excited about the scene, when the pirate crew is about to engage the Royal Navy in sea combat.
Jon has finished repairing the refrigerator and is leaving home for a while in such a hurry, that the manual he used to repair the fridge is lost again. The three dogs from the neighborhood are observing Jon's leave. Two of them hope to find shelter and food at Garfield's home, while their three-colored companion is skeptical about the idea. Meanwhile, Odie is done with his meal and is walking around the kitchen. He spots the manual on the floor. He sniffs it, then he brings the book to Garfield, who is posing like a pirate captain from the television movie. When bothered by Odie, Garfield asks him about life of a pirate being great, then asks about the manual Odie brought in his jaws. After examining it, Garfield claims that this has to be a treasure map. Following, Garfield convinces Odie that their living room is a pirate ship they are manning. When Squeak appears, Garfield states that he cannot be a pirate, for he lacks a proper hat. He crafts one from a newspaper. By magical means, Odie and Squeak also receive pirate paraphernalia.
Garfield the pirate teaches his crew members, how to act and talk like pirates. Odie has apparent trouble with pronunciating “Arr!” properly. Squeak finds it much easier to perform. An imagined ship appears nearby. The animal pirates take it over. Hercules and his canine companions manage to enter the garage at Garfield's house. They head to the kitchen, while Garfield, Odie, and Squeak are still pretending to be pirates. Garfield is replicating speeches of the pirate captain he heard on television earlier this day. Odie is pretending to be suffering from sea illness. The promises of food on board only worsen Odie's condition, therefore he flees. Hercules and his friends overhear Garfield having fun. When they peek through the door, they see Garfield, Odie, and Squeak playing something the canine intruders cannot understand. Hercules insists on ignoring Garfield and looking for food instead.
Being unaware of intruders, Garfield and his fellow "pirates" play landing on a treasure island. While searching for treasure, the imaginary pirates stumble upon Hercules and his gang, who still remain unaware of Garfield pretending to be a pirate. Hercules insists on heading to the refrigerator, for it is said to be generously filled with food. Hercules's gang manages to grab sausages and turkey from the refrigerator, while Garfield and his crew remain on treasure hunt. They eventually stumble upon the intruder dogs and recognize them as a rival pirate band, who took their treasure. The dogs laugh at Garfield's demand to hand over the stolen food. Hercules is eventually caught by Garfield's imagination and joins it. Garfield imagines actual pirates, who attack Hercules and his companions. The dog intruders flee in terror, leaving the food at home.
Garfield, Odie, and Squeak are celebrating the victory, when Jon suddenly arrives back home. The animals quickly hide the food, then Squeak conceals himself behind a chair. Jon has not noticed that there was a mess earlier, instead he admits he saw Garfield being excited about the pirate movie on television, then he walks upstairs. With Jon out of sight, Squeaks emerges. Garfield asks "Who needs a movie when you’ve got a good imagination?" , then he strikes a pirate-like pose. Odie and Squeak say "Arrr!" to the audience while Garfield grins and winks. The episode ends.
