Overview

Moo Cow Mutt is the first segment from the fifty-eighth episode of Garfield and Friends.

Synopsis

Garfield tricks Odie into believing he is a cow.

Plot

Garfield is bored and finds nothing good on TV. To lighten his mood, he plays a trick on Odie. Garfield cuts a picture of a cow out of a book, and replaces it with a mirror. He tells Odie that cows should not eat dog food, which confuses the dog. Garfield shows Odie the book, depicting Odie in the mirror with the caption "cow."

Odie still does not believe that he is a cow, so Garfield advises him to go outside and see what people say. Garfield walks by in three different outfits, calling Odie a cow every time. Odie now thinks he is a cow, and Garfield laughs when he starts mooing and eating grass.

Jon finds out about this trick, and reassures Odie that he is a dog and not a cat. Odie pants happily when Jon asks if he would like to get back at Garfield, and they make a plan.

Garfield wakes up, still laughing about Odie, and goes to the kitchen for a snack. He notices that the refrigerator is missing, unaware of Jon's prank, and runs to Jon to inform him. Jon is wearing a DJ outfit and talking on the phone about having a cow that looks like a dog. He comments that he threw away all the kitchen appliances because they can buy new ones with the money they earn from Odie.

Garfield wants to get the refrigerator back, and tries to tell Odie that he is not a cow. Odie continues to act like a cow, even after Garfield dresses up in the same outfits as earlier and calls him a dog. Jon and Odie have a laugh, with Jon stating that Garfield has learned his lesson, and that the appliances are on back porch.

Garfield claims that he never thought Odie was a cow, and thus he was not fooled by Odie and Jon's trick, even asking the viewers if they believe him. The cartoon cuts away to the start of a U.S. Acres quickie, where Orson hears that Roy is building a life-size replica of Thomas Jefferson out of okra. Garfield interrupts the quickie, still stating that he did not really think Odie was a cow, eventually giving up and walking away. As he does, he addresses a cow as Odie; the cow barks and pants like Odie.
