Michael Bell (born July 30, 1938) is an American actor, voice actor, voice director and animal-rights activist.
Bell is best known for his roles as Zan, Gleek, and The Riddler from Super Friends, the title character of the 1979 Plastic Man series, Grouchy Smurf and Handy Smurf from The Smurfs, Dr. Bruce Banner from the 1982 version of The Incredible Hulk, Bombshell, Prowl, Scrapper, Sideswipe, and Swoop from The Transformers, Blowtorch, Duke, Lift-Ticket, Major Bludd, and Scrap-Iron from G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero, Lance and Sven from Voltron, Lex Luthor from the 1988 Superman series (he also voiced a young version of the character in Super Friends), and Chaz, Drew, and Grandpa Boris from Rugrats. He has also voiced Opus (from the Bloom County comic strip) in A Wish for Wings That Work, and had stints voicing Marvel characters Dr. Octopus and Cyclops.
Among Bell's other voiceover credentials are The ABC Saturday Superstar Movie, Speed Buggy, Scooby-Doo, Devlin, CB Bears, Space Stars, Trollkins, The Kwicky Koala Show, The Snorks, The Centurions, Inhumanoids, Foofur, My Little Pony and Friends, Spiral Zone, TaleSpin, Darkwing Duck, Little Nemo: Adventures in Slumberland, the Saturday morning Sonic The Hedgehog series, Disney's Aladdin television series, What-A-Mess, The Real Adventures of Johnny Quest, Baldur's Gate, Legacy of Kain, several Star Trek video games, Ratchet and Clank, Detroit Docona, Ninja Gaiden, W.I.T.C.H., Lost Odyssey, Transformers: Rescue Bots, and Star Wars Rebels. He has been heard in numerous television commercials.
On screen, Bell has notably appeared in Ironside, Mannix, Petrocelli, Dallas, Star Trek: The Next Generation, and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. He also guest starred in episodes of Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C., The Monkees, Get Smart, Mission: Impossible, The Big Valley, The Mary Tyler Moore Show, Tattletales (where he was paired with actress Marcia Wallace), Barnaby Jones, The Streets of San Francisco, M*A*S*H, Charlie's Angels, The Rockford Files, CHiPs, Benson, Three's Company, Hotel, Remington Steele, and Scarecrow and Mrs. King.
Bell has been married to actress Victoria Carroll since 1968. His daughter Ashely and godson Steve Gothenberg also have acting careers.
In the early 1990s, Bell invented the Grayway Rotating Drain with Rugrats co-star Melanie Chartoff.
