Madman Meets His Match is an episode from the sixth season of Garfield and Friends.

Synopsis

Jon decides to go to Madman Murray's Store to shop, only to find competition across the street.

Plot

Jon walks into the living room and sees Garfield watching TV. He tells him that it's a beautiful day outside and he should be enjoying it. In response Garfield brings the TV outside and relaxes in the hammock. At that moment a commercial for Madman Murray comes on to which Garfield has already seen. He changes the channel and see a commercial for a new salesman Demented Dave who sells similar stuff that Murray sells. When Jons sees him watching, he decides to take Garfield shopping with him to get him out of the house.

In the city Demented Dave is trying to sell all kinds of stuff to customers much to Madman's annoyance whose store is across the street from his. He demands Demented to stop interfering with his business to which Demented says he'll do better than him. As Garfield and Jon enter the city to do shopping, Jon decides to go to Madman Murray's store and buy a T-shirt to despite Garfield's warning to never buy anything from recurring characters. Meanwhile across the street Demented spies Jon and Garfield and decides to lure them to his store using the cat.

Inside Madman attempts to get Jon to buy something when Garfield smells the lasagna attached to a fishing pole as bait for Garfield and pulls him to his store. This causes Jon to search for Garfield leading him to Demented Dave's who in turn tries to get him to buy something. In Demented's case he tries selling a giant stereo to him despite Jon saying he wants to buy a T-Shirt.

Eventually the two salesmen fight and tug over Jon to which Garfield decides to step in before they rip Jon in two. After getting their attention via whistle, Garfield shows the two a newspaper article showing that two businesses do better if they combine to which Murray and Dave agree to do. Later, Garfield sees Murray and Dave's new store while Jon has just bought so much stuff for over less than $1000. The two salesmen agree that partnership is better business but they then get into an argument on who should do their commercials. On the way home Jon tells Garfield they need to stop someplace to buy a T-Shirt to which Garfield says he can't afford one.
