(The episode opens with a quick recap of the first three parts. Lyman was believed to be lost in Franistan, Australia, trapped by a beast called the Zabadu. Jon and the pets fly there to rescue him, meet up with Angie, their guide, and have a run-in with Dirk Dinkum, Angie's former employer. Angie, Jon, Garfield, and Odie later realize the Zabadu's true identity: Lyman. The five of them stay in a small cabin in a cliffside wall, Lyman explaining his backstory)

Lyman: I thought for sure I was a goner, but then, the oddest thing happened.

Lyman: (narrating) The Zabadu picked me up and carried me off. It carried me to this cabin, the one we're all in right now. It took me right in and bandaged my leg. But then, just when I thought things couldn't get any weirder, it spoke to me.

Zabadu: I set your broken leg. You're fortunate I used to be a doctor.

Jon: The Zabadu used to be a doctor?

Lyman: No, a doctor used to be the Zabadu. (The Zabadu unmasks himself to me a regular person, and Garfield yawns as Lyman explains it) His name was Sam, and he was a retired surgeon. Years ago he came to this area on vacation. In fact, he was a hunter, but he didn't like that some hunters were hunting where they weren't supposed to.

(The flashback resumes)

Sam: There's this local legend about a creature called the Zabadu. I never believed for a minute there was such a creature but I... I figured...

Lyman: You figured if you made yourself a costume and dressed yourself up as the Zabadu...

Sam: I could scare them off, right?

(for a brief moment, the flashback pauses and then continues)

Lyman: And that's what he did. (now narrating) He made a costume and whenever a hunter ventured where he wasn't supposed to...

(Sam in costume stalks an unsuspecting hunter)

Zabadu: Roars

Hunter: AAAAHHH! It's the Zabadu! I'm sorry, Mr. Zabadu! I'll never hunt in this area again! AAAHHHH! (he flees in terror)

Lyman: It was a great idea, and the animals around here liked it, too. He was such a wonderful man, and I stayed around to help him out. (he takes a picture of unmasked Sam posing with several animals: elephants, a bear--who holds up the peace sign with his paw--a couple of tigers, and several different species of birds. A parrot flies to Sam's arm, and the flashback ends)

Lyman: (as Odie hops into his lap) When Sam passed away I took it over, his cabin, his costume, his mission...

Angie: That's wonderful, Lyman.

Jon: A great thing you're doing, my friend.

(Once Lyman ends his story, Odie cries and sniffles in his lap)

Garfield: (handing Odie a tissue) Here, I'll help you out. Blow that thing you call a nose.

Odie: (blows nose)

Garfield: (standing upright) Good. I'm going out to see if there's any lunch left in Angie's vehicle. Wanna come with me?

Odie: (perking up) Yeah!

Garfield: Then come with me!

(Garfield runs out, a big grin on his face. Odie, panting excitedly, follows Garfield)

(Dirk Dinkum, still on the ladder, sees the pets coming toward him. He quickly climbs down the ladder before the cat and dog reach it. Garfield and Odie both climb down and make a break for their ATV, while Dirk and Buckley spy from behind a rock. Once the pets have left, Dirk pulls out his camera and reclimbs the ladder, Buckley right behind him)

Angie: So noble of you, protecting all these endangered animals.

Jon: You make a great Zabadu!

(Dirk reaches the top of the ladder and resumes eavesdropping, camera still in hand)

Lyman: Here, you didn't see the whole routine. I'm on constant patrol, (he puts the mask back on) and when I see a hunter where he shouldn't be... (he demonstrates by roaring and laughing evilly. Jon and Angie laugh, while Dirk snaps photos of the incriminating evidence)

(By this time, Garfield and Odie have reached Angie's ATV, only to see a jeep parked beside it. They gasp, look at each other, and then run back into the canyon to warn the humans)

Dirk: (now at the bottom of the ladder) I got it, Buckley! I got photographic proof that the Zabadu is a big fraud!

Buckley: (celebrating and clapping) If you publish that, you'll ruin the guy's whole routine here helping the animals!

Dirk: Yeah, but these pieces will be worth a fortune on that TV show! (he gives Buckley a noogie like a big brother to a little brother) Besides, who cares about a lot of stupid animals, anyway? (he and Buckley walk off, satisfied with their work, and not noticing Garfield and Odie, who have now reached the canyon's floor)

Odie: (hearing Dirk's remark about "stupid animals") Mutters and growls

Garfield: Easy, boy... (As he says this, the miffed mutt charges Dirk and Buckley and bites the former's leg)

Dirk: Hey, mutt! Leave me alone! (he shakes his leg to try to get Odie off. In the confusion, Garfield swipes the camera)

Garfield: Got it! (he runs behind a rock. As Dirk turns around, Odie leaps and bites his rear end)

Dirk: (after screaming in pain) Hey, cat, give me back that camera! (he starts chasing Garfield)

Garfield: (stopping for a second) Nope. I don't think I'll do that.

Dirk: (With Odie still literally on his tail... bone) We've gotta catch that cat! The photos in that camera are worth a fortune! Get off me, mutt! (he spins, trying to shake Odie off, while Buckley continues chasing Garfield. Dirk is eventually successful and Odie flies off)

Odie: Growls and barks

Jon: (hearing the commotion outside) What is it, boy?

Odie: Huh?

(The chase has continued out of the canyon and into the jungle, with Dirk and Buckley still unable to catch the cat)

Dirk: (stopping) He won't get away from us! I'm determined! I'm willing to put your life on the line! (he points as his assistant)

Buckley: You think so, Dirk?

(As Garfield continues running, Dirk pulls up in his jeep. Buckley hops in, and the two speed off, Odie and the other three humans--Jon, Angie, and Lyman--follow on foot)

Angie: That vehicle! It belongs to Dirk Dinkum!

Lyman: It looks like Odie wants us to follow him.

Odie: Bark! Bark! Bark!

(Garfield, still managing to somehow outrun the villains' vehicle, tries to take shelter in a cave, only to get scared off by something inside. He resorts to plan B: hiding behind a rock. Dirk drives up without locating Garfield)

Dirk: Looks like there's a detour up ahead! The bloke must've gone into that cave!

(They drive into it. Garfield emerges from his cover and runs off, laughing)

Dirk: We've got him trapped! (a brief pause) Got him! Good work, mate! Where's the camera?

(They then realize the reason why Garfield left the cave: a bear was sleeping in there. They run screaming out of the cave with the bear chasing them)

Buckley: Get out of my way! (he and Dirk split up. The bear chases Buckley, and Dirk has seemingly avoided it)

Garfield: (laughing and sitting in a tree, snapping multiple photos of the chaos) Oh, this is great, just great!

Mockingbird: (in Garfield's voice) Oh, this is great, just great!

(Garfield scowls at the mockingbird before Dirk retakes his camera from his paw)

Dirk: I'll take my camera back, cat!

(Garfield, surprised, falls off the tree limb he was sitting on and lands in his head. The bear spins Buckley around in the background)

Dirk: Another stupid animal always causing trouble.

Mockingbird: (in Dirk's voice) Another stupid animal always causing trouble.

Dirk: Hmm, you know what I got a hankering for? Rotisserie mockingbird!

Mockingbird: (in his regular voice) Bye now!

Garfield: (still on his head, but now with his arms crossed) I really don't like this guy. (In the background, the bear starts using Buckley as a volleyball and then as a basketball)

Odie: (running up) Growls

Buckley: (now playing patty-cake with the bear) Hey, animals aren't so bad, Dirk!

Dirk: Shut up, Buckley! Animals are only good for two things: wearing 'em, and eating 'em! And when I dispose of this Zabadu hoax, I may come back here and bag me a couple of those, uh, what'cha call 'em, endangered species!

Zabadu: Roars

Odie: Huh? Oh...

(Garfield falls over and sits upright. Meanwhile, the bear Buckley was playing with screams in a high-pitched voice and scrams)

Dirk: You're not gonna be fooling me with that hokey routine!

Zabadu: Roars

Dirk: (seeing the Zabadu) Alright, you can take off that ratty costume, fella.

Garfield: (walking up to Dirk and tugging his jacket) No, that's not the guy in the ratty costume. THAT'S the guy in the ratty costume. (he points at Lyman, who is standing nearby)

Lyman: Hi, Dinkum. How's it going?

Zabadu: Zabadu! Zabadu! Roars (he leaps in front of a petrified Dirk and Buckley)

Garfield: Well, now we know why he's called the Zabadu.

(Dirk mumbles incoherently before zipping away, leaving Buckley behind)

Buckley: Wait for me, mate!

Zabadu: Zabadu! Zabadu! Zabadu! Zabadu! (he chases after the villainous pair. Jon, Angie, and Lyman run up behind him, keeping a safe distance so as not to be noticed)

Angie: We all thought it was just a legend.

Jon: And it turns out there's a REAL Zabadu!

Lyman: Gee, he's not bad in the role.

Zabadu: Zabadu! Zabadu! Zabadu! (Dirk and his assistant both scream in terror as they run for their jeep, which they parked in the bear cave)

Buckley: Go, Dinkum, GO!

Zabadu: Zabadu! Zabadu! Zabadu!

(Before Dirk can get too far, the Zabadu grabs the back of the jeep, spins it around a couple of times and launches it into a couple of trees, where it gets stuck upside-down between the trunks. Dirk and Buckley fall out, and are forced to flee from the incoming terror)

Zabadu: Zabadu! Zabadu! Zabadu!

(With the Zabadu, Dirk, and Buckley gone, Garfield and Odie retain Dirk's camera)

Garfield: Well, I don't think they'll be needing this. (he picks up Dirk's camera)

Odie: Mutters

Garfield: Because neither of them will ever tell anyone about what happened here.

Odie: Hmm... mutters

Garfield: The Zabadu? He's outta here! His job's done.

(The creature leaps above the trees, chanting his name)

Zabadu: Zabadu! Zabadu!

Garfield: I guess he's like Vito the pizza maker.

Odie: Huh?

Garfield: Yeah. He shows up when he's really, really needed.

Odie: Yeah. Chuckles

(With the bad guys dealt with, the main quintet of characters talk in a clearing next to Angie's ATV)

Lyman: Jon, I can't thank you and Garfield enough. I'm gonna spend the rest of my life helping the animals here and, you made that possible. Plus, you brought Odie back to me. (Lyman bends down and hugs Odie, who stands up on his hind paws and puts his front paws on his former master. However, Lyman's comment about bringing the pup back to him surprises Jon and confuses Odie)

Jon: Oh!

Odie: Huh?

Jon: You're... you're keeping Odie here?

Lyman: Of course! He's my dog. (he picks up Odie, who now has a saddened look on his face)

Jon: (sadly) Yes... yes he is.

(In an uncharacteristic move for Garfield, he tries defending a dog)

Garfield: Jon! You can't let... (Garfield steps up to Jon and grabs his hand) I mean he's... (he turns to Lyman and Odie with a panicked expression)

Lyman: Here, Odie. Say farewell to your friend, Garfield. (Lyman holds the puppy's paw and waves it before lowering him to ground level)

Odie: (despite the abuse he has taken over the years--both verbal and physical in the comics page and TV alike--he still can't imagine the thought of being without his feline friend) Whines and whimpers

Garfield: Yeah, that's kind of how I feel about it, too.

Odie: Mutters

Garfield: (putting on a brave face) But hey, you're back with your buddy, Lyman! That's pretty good, huh?

Odie: Whimpers

Garfield: I... guess we'll see you around, fella. (he runs around Angie and hugs Jon's leg, quietly crying)

Angie: If I'm gonna get you to your plane in time...

Jon: Let me just say good-bye to Odie.

(Lyman puts Odie on the ground, the puppy starting to cry in the process. Jon kneels down and embraces the dog, and even Garfield hugs Jon's back, all three of them weeping as they give each other one last hug. Angie, who is standing up against her vehicle the entire time, also starts to get teary-eyed as the trio bids each other good-bye)

Lyman: (to Odie) I know you'll miss them but think of all the great fun you and I will have together. (he walks away. Odie glances up at Jon before the crying canine runs after Lyman. Garfield seems to be taking it the hardest, as he sobs again into Jon's side. The distraught dog takes one last look at the teary-eyed Jon and crying cat. He waves his right ear as if to say good-bye... and then runs off after his original owner. Jon stays on his knees and Garfield stands right beside him as Lyman and Odie disappear into the jungle)

(Back at the airport, Angie says good-bye to Jon and his cat, Garfield still looking quite down)

Jon: Thanks for all your help, Angie.

Angie: I wouldn't have missed it for anything, Jon. You're a good man.

Garfield: Ahem. Meow.

Angie: And cat. (she gives Jon a kiss on the cheek) Stay in touch, please. (she notices how depressed Garfield looks) Don't look so unhappy, Garfield. The two of you are going home.

Garfield: Yeah, that's the problem. Just the two of us. (he glances next to him, where Odie would usually be)

(The plane takes off, and Angie drives away)

(Back at Jon's house, the mice are still partying like there's no tomorrow. Irv, who is sitting on Jon's windowsill, sees the airport taxi drive up, with two passengers inside)

Irv: Squeak, yellow alert!

(Almost instantly, every one of the dozens of mice hides, and just in time, too, as Jon opens the door)

Jon: (still saddened by the loss of Odie) I'm going to go upstairs and unpack.

Squeak: (shuffling up to Garfield from under a pink coffee mug) Hey, Garfield, how'd it go? Did you find Lyman? Is he alright?

Garfield: (melancholily) Yes, we found Lyman. Yes, he's alright.

Squeak: Oh, that's great! So, uh, so why are you so glum? You look like you lost your best friend.

(Garfield walks slowly into the living room, stopping to look at Odie's toys: a squeaky bone and a red and blue ball. He picks up the ball and examines it)

Squeak: (now leaning against Garfield's heel with a bunch of mice hiding behind Garfield's chair) Hey, where's Odie?

Garfield: Odie? I don't know any Odie.

(Sad music begins to play as Garfield leaves, ball still in hand. Squeak watches him leave, a distressed look on the rodent's face, and 15 other mice peek out from behind the chair and surrounding area)

VO: (singing in Jon's voice) In the heart of fall... when the days are short

(Garfield, now outside, sits on the birdbath, feeling lost in the woods, bouncing the ball off the ground and shed and back to himself. Jon pokes his head out the back window and calls to his pet cat)

Jon: (unenthusiastically) Garfield, dinner's ready.

VO: It is not time to stay alone in despair.

Gather with ones you love

And care

Care and share.

Don't despair,

Your parents and your friends,

Anyone dear,

Care and share.

It's time now

To make peace and forgive

Care and share

Care and share.

(Garfield sighs and closes his eyes in sorrow, still holding the ball. The song continues as he remembers all the fun times that he and Odie had together, and several clips from past events of episodes play, including:

Jon: (walking outside to comfort the downtrodden cat) Boy, you must really miss him. Well, I do too, but we have to get over it.

(the doorbell rings)

Jon: This is probably the mailman with all the mail I had them hold while we were gone.

Garfield: Sighs

(Jon walks up to the door and answers it, and to his surprise it turns out to be...)

Jon: Lyman!

Lyman: Jon! Great to see you! You haven't changed a bit, I'm sorry to say.

Jon: Neither have you.

Lyman: And I'm even sorrier about that.

(The mice watch the conversation from the stairs)

Jon: What are you doing--?

Lyman: You left something important in Franistan and I thought I'd return it in person. Here. (he picks up and hands Odie to Jon)

Jon: Odie!

Odie: Bark! Bark! Slurp! Slurp! (he licks Jon's face excitedly)

Jon: Oh, it's good to have you back!

(The mice celebrate Odie's return)

Garfield: (still sitting on the birdbath) Is that?! Ah, no. I thought I heard... (he rubs his eye as if he was crying) ah, never mind.

Odie: (now in the backyard with a stick in his mouth, a risky move considering the last time he tried this, he got literally kicked out of the house) Mutters and barks

Garfield: (looking up at Odie) Huh? I just have to face reality, Odie. You're gone for good, and I'll never see you again. Is this another fantasy sequence? (he does the cuckoo sign with his hand)

Odie: (shaking his head no) Uh-uh.

(Garfield laughs, hops down and hugs his best friend, before examining him further to make sure it's not a fantasy sequence. The overjoyed Odie mutters again, convincing Garfield that the former is real. Garfield laughs again and puts him arm around Odie, happy that he's home)

(Meanwhile, the former roommates Jon and Lyman talk in the living room inside)

Lyman: I looked at Odie's face, heard him sigh and thought, "He doesn't belong with me." Sure, I used to own him, but now YOU own him.

Jon: Garfield has no appetite.

Lyman: Garfield not eating? That's serious. Well, looks like I've saved two more animals. Speaking of which, I have to get back to Franistan.

Jon: You can't stay?

Lyman: I wish I could. Tell you what, one of these days I'll hire a temporary Zabadu to fill in for me so I can come back for a real visit. (he gets up and walks toward the front door, Jon does the same)

Jon: I'd like that. I'd like that a lot.

Lyman: So, Garfield and Odie are back together again. You think it's just like it used to be? (Lyman and Jon put their arms around each other)

(Th pair then walk out the front door, where despite saying that he would never never never never do it again only days prior, Garfield is throwing a stick so Odie can fetch it. Jon and Lyman watch from their porch)

Garfield: There you go, boy! Go fetch the stick! (he laughs and throws it. Odie chases after it, barking all the way, with Garfield right behind) Oh, that's great, Odie! Here it goes again, boy! (Garfield throws it again) Fetch the stick! Fetch the stick!

Jon: (chuckles) No. Tomorrow it'll be just like it used to be. Right now, it's even better.

Garfield: OK, here comes a big one, now. Go fetch the stick! Go boy! (He laughs, happy to be reunited with his best friend. Odie grabs the stick, puts it in Garfield paw, and Garfield throws it one last time before this adventure finally comes to a close)
