Jon is the prototype comic of Garfield that was released in the Pendleton Times in 1976 (2 years before the Garfield comic). Jim adapted the strips to Garfield to make it more clean.
History
After he got bored with doing the comic strip Gnorm Gnat, he did this comic a year after it ended. Davis did it through 1976 all the way to 1978 until he was picked up nationally in Newsday. In March of 1978, it was renamed to Garfield, but after that he said goodbye to the Pendleton Times and went nationally,
