James II is the King of Hamelin seen in The Pie-Eyed Piper.
Personality[]
In spite of being a king of a prosperous town, James II is extremely timid and scared to the point that he would not take responsibility in raising his son and heir James III. He hates taking blame for anything and would rather let anyone else take the fall for any mishaps the town might suffer. It is also implied he wants to take credit for any feats achieved by other people despite barely being involved in them.
Role[]
The Pie-Eyed Piper[]
James II is first seen in his castle when the townsfolk march toward his castle to complain about the mice epidemic. Frightened, James runs back into the castle where he decides he will let someone else take blame for the mice problem. He hires Jon, a cartoonist to deal with the mice problem and feels relieved at being off the hook. At first Jon can not get rid of the mice, in spite of various attempts and strategies. Eventually a cat named the Pied Piper arrives and helps Jon drive the mice away with his flute.
Later Jon heads back to the castle to tell James II that the piper requested an Italian meal in exchange for driving the mice away. However the king refuses the request, stating that if he did it would look like he needed help and that the people needed to see that he was in full command. He then has Jon dragged away while hosting a parade for stopping the mice problem. The decision turned out to be a huge mistake for the king as in response, the Pied Piper altered his flute so he would hypnotize the Italian chefs of the town to somewhere far away. Without the chefs, the townsfolk are so infuriated that they dethrone the king and hit him with a pie (marking the first time that James II has taken the blame for anything).
