Home for the Holidays: Part 2 (FRFlag Chaleur du foyer: Partie 2) is the 2ndUS/EU episode from the second season of The Garfield Show.

Synopsis[]

Jon's Christmas plans take a turn for the unexpected, prompting Garfield to learn that there's more to Christmas than opening presents and eating!

Plot[]

A considerable amount of time has passed and the night has fallen. Jon is wondering, where did his pets go. Throughout examination of the house rooms indicates they are not present within the area. When he hears the door bell, he rushes to open the door in hope to see Garfield and Odie. It turns out, that Jon's parents and Doc Boy have arrived. After being given a present from his mother and greeting the guests, Liz arrives at the house. Jon receives a kiss from her and another present. A moment later it turns out, that Dr. Wilson came with her parents. Her mother acts in friendly way, while her father behaves much more reserved. Jon serves his guests with his best skills. Jon's family is met with Liz's family at the Jon's dinner table.

In another part of the town, Garfield and Odie are pre-occupied with making Christmas evening for the animals. The junk pile looks more or less read for the season, just misisng lights. Harry and the kittens are having fun near the pile, while Garfield and Arlene are watching it. Arlene states, that the pile needs something. Garfield admits, that a star on top is the missing part. Odie brings a disco ball, making Garfield and Arlene impressed. Garfield and Odie set the ball on top of the pile, being assisted by Rags and Spring. Arlene has doubts, if the decoration will actually work, but Garfield remains firm in his belief in success.

Back at Jon's house, the dinner has been eaten and two families are singing "Jingle Bells". Jon is providing musical background with a guitar. When he suggest to continue singing, Doc Boy opposes. When Jon's mother offers help in preparing dinner, Jon admits that everything is ready and they are just waiting for Garfield and Odie to appear. Liz shows concern about the lack of Jon's pets, while her father admits their lack of presence made the event peaceful. Mrs. Arbuckle claims that she is sure that Jon's pets are okay, while Doc Boy suspects them planning something. Jon agrees with his mother, leaves the guitar, and offers his guests dinner. It turns out that Garfield and Odie came back home, accompanied by Harry and Rags. They are watching dinner served by Jon through the window. Jon has prepared turkey, mashed potatoes, and lasagna. Liz compliments Jon's achievements, seconded by Doc Boy.

The humans hear clattering noise coming from the living room. When they come to investigate what happen, they notice that the Christmas table and decorations have vanished. Garfield, Odie, and their companions make use of the distraction by stealing food from the kitchen. They take their loot to a truck and drive away. Garfield is driving the truck, while the Arbuckles and the Wilsons see the incident. Jon is mourning the loss of the dinner he prepared with effort, while Liz attempts to comfort him. The drive goes roughly, due to traffic obstacles encountered on the road. Fortunately, Garfield manages to drive safely to the destination point, being assisted by Odie in handling pedals. Harry uses the truck's lights to illuminate the disco ball. The animals are impressed. Meanwhile, Jon admits that Christmas this year is over shorter than normally. When he is about to apologize, he and his guests spot a light from a star shining above the town landscape.

Garfield istructs Odie to set the lights on, then Odie serves meals to the animals. The entire table taken from Jon's house with paraphernalia is used to serve the meals Jon originally cooked for his guests. Arlene sets a gramophone to play music matching the season, then she compliments Garfield. After a moment, Jon and Liz appear at the stolen table, followed by their family members. Jon rejoins with his pets, then he spots other animals in the area. Mrs. Wilson is charmed by the sight of Nick, who reminds her of her old canary bird named Petey. Nick agrees to change his names for macadamia nuts. At the same time, Jon's parents fall in love with the kittens and elect to take them to their farm. The catlings refuse to go without Rags, but the old dog persuades them to go. Mr. Wilson reminds himself with the help of his wife about their dog Junior, who died 10 years earlier. Robert convinces himself to take Rags, for the latter reminds him of Junior.

Suddenly, other homeless animals appear in the area. Liz urges Jon to do something. Jon replies, that they have no means to handle all those stray animals. Vito appears without a warning and elects to take one dog as a restaurant guard against Garfield. A crowd of humans appear to get own pet. Arlene compliments Garfield for the second time in the episode, calling him the spirit of Christmas, and gives him a kiss on his cheek. Garfield declares being hungry. Jon calls anyone for the dinner. The episode ends with Christmas music playing in the background.

Trivia[]

  • This episode marks the first appearance of Jon's parents in The Garfield Show, and Dad Arbuckle's only speaking appearance. Here, Frank Welker portrays Mr. Arbuckle, who was originally voiced by Pat Harrington Jr.
  • Nermal appears on the title card, despite his absence from the episode. The image is identical to the one used in "Caroling Capers".
  • On YouTube, an echo effect is heard throughout this episode.
