Hansel and Garfield is an episode from the second season of Garfield and Friends.
Synopsis
When Nermal comes over for a visit, Garfield is forced to entertain him, and narrates the story of Hansel and Gretel.
Plot
Garfield's alarm clock detects that it is Monday via exploding. Worse than that, he finds out that Nermal is visiting. After a failed attempt to give Nermal away, Garfield is disciplined and threatened by Jon into never being fed again if he does anything rotten to Nermal.
Nermal is bored of all the soap operas on TV and asks Garfield to tell him a story. Garfield tells him the story of Hansel and Gretel, with the title duo and their father all resembling Garfield. They have eaten all of their food and their father, a woodcutter, is out of a job.
They head out to find food and leave a trail of bagels, which Nermal disbelieves. They soon come across a gingerbread house, where the witch, who plans to cook them, lived. Nermal protests against the graphic idea of children being cooked and eaten, noting cartoons are supposed to teach morals about friendship and kindness.
After the witch invites them in, the kids are about to push her into the oven, which frightens Nermal. When Jon enters the room and tells him to stop, Garfield changes his story. He says that they called the contracting company, with the building inspectors foreclosing the house for being built out of gingerbread. The house is sold at an auction. Hansel and Gretel's father cut it down, providing them with food again.
When Garfield closes the story, Nermal is dissatisfied that the witch did not have a happy ending. Garfield adds in a part where the witch went into business by opening up a daycare center, finally satisfying Nermal. Garfield states how hard it is to please kids while eating a part of the house.
