Hale and Hardy are the rivals of Garfield and Odie from Garfield Gets Real. They are out to replace the Garfield comic strip if Garfield and Odie do not return to Comic World. They are represented by Mike.
Hale is a dog and Hardy is a cat.
Design[]
Hale and Hardy possess several similarities in appearance - both are brown cartoon animals with brawny, top-heavy physiques, dressed in orange leotards with a white 'H' on their chest. Their disproportionate upper bodies do not prevent them from walking on all fours.
Hale is a dog whose fur has a slightly more orange color and lighter fur on his belly. As a dog, he has a longer, wider snout with faint spots and longer ears with rounded ends which fold.
Hardy is a cat with a more pale, red-purple tinged fur. He has scruffy patches of hair on the sides of his head, and wears a headband. Being a cat, he has noticeable whiskers and a shorter snout.
History[]
In the wake of Garfield and Odie becoming lost in the real world and Garfield's comic strip being cancelled, Mike presented Hale and Hardy to the board of comic executives. In contrast to the rather slovenly, abrasive, and occasionally violent Garfield (who, at the time, had just injured Odie considerably in a recreation of their kicking gag), Hale and Hardy are physically fit and seemingly always cooperate with each other. They don't appear very humorous at first glance, but the board agrees to put them on to replace Garfield due to being strong role models - but only if Garfield's comic does not return within 24 hours.
That night, when Garfield and Odie return to the Muncie, Hale and Hardy follow. When Garfield, Odie, and Shecky fall asleep, they enter their room and beat them up before tying them from the ceiling, re-lighting the candle they had in their room and taunting the trio before leaving. The force with which they slammed the door to Shecky's room was enough to knock the candle off of the plate it was resting on, which rolled over and lit a newspaper in the room on fire, which soon engulfed the hotel, though Hale and Hardy weren't around for the consequences of that action.
After Garfield returns and Hale and Hardy fail to get contracted, the duo were reduced to eating garbage, and blamed each other for their failure.
