Gunther looks like an average male domestic cat with similar body shape to Garfield. His fur is predominantly dark grey with lighter tone on cheeks and black nose. Gunther's distinguishing features are his pear-shaped head with large ruffled hair on cheeks, similar to those seen on Lola or Foo Foo.
His hair tufts inside ears are horizontally placed.

Gunther is portrayed as mercilles bird hunter, who does not seem to care about his prey. He perceives Garfield as his rival and main obstacle in hunting birds.
