Garfield Wiki

Requirements[]

Bureaucrat[]

  • For bureaucrat rights, a user must have been an administrator for at least six months to receive consideration. This will necessitate meeting all requirements listed below. In addition, the bureaucrat promotion process will require two votes - an initial vote to promote the user, and a second vote to ratify the promotion after six months.

Administrator[]

  • The administrator requirements have two parts, promotion and retention. While a user must meet all promotion requirements to gain the position, they must also fulfill the retention requirements on an ongoing basis to retain it.
  • FOR PROMOTION AS AN ADMINISTRATOR:
    • The user must have made at least 1000 total edits, of which at least 750 must be encyclopedic.
    • The user must present to staff at least 30 pages they claim responsibility over developing.
    • If previously demoted, the user must wait at least six months to reapply for the position, and an additional six months beyond that (one year) if demoted twice. Users demoted three times are ineligible for any future promotions.
    • Any edits made before the user was demoted do not count towards the above requirements.
    • The user must not have been blocked on the wiki under reasonable circumstances within the last two months.
  • FOR RETENTION AS AN ADMINISTRATOR:
    • The user must have made at least 480 total edits within the period of the year (40 edits per month), of which at least 375 must be encyclopedic (~31 edits per month).
    • The user must be available to communicate with the rest of the staff at least semi-regularly.
    • The user must maintain an acceptable level of behavior, as judged by both the community and the staff.

Content Moderator[]

  • The user must have made at least 750 text-based edits, of which at least 375 must be encyclopedic.
  • The user must have an acceptable level of behavior, as judged by both the community and the staff.

Thread Moderator[]

  • The user must have made at least 150 edits of any kind
  • The user must have made at least 150 posts that do not break any adjudged rules.
  • The user must have an acceptable level of behavior, as judged by both the community and the staff.

Rollback[]

  • The user must have made at least 200 edits of any kind
  • The user must not have been blocked on the wiki under reasonable circumstances within the last two months.

Questions & Answers[]

  • "What constitutes as a gimmick edit and an encyclopedic edit?"
    • The Garfield Wiki distinguishes between two types of edit: The "gimmick edit" and the "encyclopedic edit".
      • The "gimmick edit" refers to edits wherein the editor adds non-informative content to a wiki page. These include adding images and categories, adding to transcripts, changing images within a gallery, changing a userpage, editing a user blog, and adding licensing to images. "Gimmick edits" don't add information directly to a subject, but only supplement it.
      • The "encyclopedic edit" refers to edits wherein the editor changes or adds informative text on a wiki page. For instance, adding a paragraph or sentence, fixing grammar on a page, and changing a table. One might think of how the Encyclopædia Britannica is or was set up; information relating to, and only to an article's subject.
  • "How detailed must an encyclopedic edit be?'"
    • Encyclopedic writing is not creative writing, so it should be only enough that it covers the bases of an article in such a way that it's informative. A number of studies have shown that people prefer to skim articles rather than read them word by word; thus, adding immediate, yet relevant information is paramount in keeping within the user's interests. Brevity is far preferred above cluttered descriptions. Compare below:
      • ❌ = 'XYZ is a Caucasian female. Her complexion is pale and smooth, and her bone structure is high and sharp, most notably impressed by her cheekbones while her oft-mascaraed eyes are deep inset into her orbits. She wears red lipstick over her natural pout, presenting what appears a natural scowl with eyebrows naturally resting downwards. Her hair is chestnut-coloured and relatively short, reaching shoulder length, while her short fringe complements the shape of her face. Though her outfits change per episode in line with her deep interest in fashion and photography, her most common choice of wear is a scarlet-dyed, buttoned cardigan with a turtleneck neckline, its cashmere wool material inset with white thread...' = 113 words
      • ✔️ = 'XYZ has pale skin, a natural scowl, short chestnut hair with a fringe, and she wears red lipstick and often mascara. Her general outfit consists of a red buttoned cardigan...' = 30 words
  • "What does it mean to 'develop a page?'"
    • The wiki contains three main templates that refer to editing on pages: Under Construction, Stub and Checkup Required. On pages that contain any one of these three templates, anytime an editor edits the page enough to constitute removing that template, it is considered 'developed'. When presented to administrators as a developed page, the staff shall review the changes made to the page's content and consider if to award the user with its "development".
  • "What is a 'reasonable block'?"
    • Any blockable offense as listed by the rules.
  • "What date are edits first counted for retention of adminship, and what is the final day for retention?"
    • A year's edits are counted from January 1st until December 31st.
  • SHOULD YOU HAVE ANY FURTHER QUESTIONS OR ARE STILL CONFUSED, FEEL FREE TO CONTACT ONE OF OUR STAFF MEMBERS. THANK YOU.

Requests[]

Good day, administrators. I'm fully aware that i've been promoted to Content Moderator, but i'd like to increase my status to apply for Admin. I have contribuited a lot to the wiki, and i believe that my edits are encyclopedic. In fact, i have been editing a lot of articles, and (i tried) to following the manual of style perfectly. I never used subjective material, i used american english spelling, i avoided using contractions, and i have been fixing a lot of Garfield and Friends' plots lately. Not to mention, i developed pages such as Edward R. Furrow, the Weasel, and some minor characters' pages. If your answer is no, then, that's okay. I'll make sure to make as much as encyclopedic edits as possible. I think i have been a good "Content Moderator" so far. So, what do you think? BiggestGarfieldFan (talk) 15:16, 22 June 2024 (UTC)

You make good edits and you have an acceptable level of behavior, so I'll be supportive here. YonasE7 (talk) 22:28, 2 August 2024 (UTC)
I agree with Yonas. EllaStreusel (talk) 22:52, 16 August 2024 (UTC)
Due to unusual circumstances, this request shall be put on hold for the time being. Low Spark of Lyman (talk) 18:56, 20 August 2024 (UTC)

I’m eager to apply for the role of Thread Moderator, as I meet the necessary qualifications. I have completed over 150 edits, made at least 150 posts in compliance with the rules, and maintain a commendable level of behavior as recognized by both the community and staff.

I would love the opportunity to help manage discussions and contribute positively to our threads. Thank you for considering my application!

Unfortunately, you have only made 117 discussion posts (see here), so you do not currently qualify for the position. EllaStreusel (talk) 15:21, 30 October 2024 (UTC)

Given that (between both accounts) I have been an administrator for well over a year, I would now like to request bureaucrat rights. While I fully admit being less active in recent months due to increased real-life responsibilities, I still check in here every day and edit as much as I can, and I believe the bureaucrat position will help me to continue to develop and maintain the wiki. EllaStreusel (talk) 16:04, 2 December 2024 (UTC)

Despite the fact that I am not a Staff Member here anymore, I would still like to give my input here. Ella has made productive edits here since 15 June 2023 and is shown to be very good with people both on FANDOM And on Discord, so I support this request. YonasE7 (talk) 18:05, 2 December 2024 (UTC)

I also support this request. PropheticCrest83 (talk) 09:47, 1 January 2025 (UTC)

I support EllaStrudel’s request to be promoted to Bureaucrat on the Garfield Wiki. SkyPrismButterflyWing
