Synopsis[]

Ladies and Gentlemen! Cats and Mice! Welcome to Dr. Whipple's lab! Enjoy our Phobia Flusher and get rid of all your fears!

Plot[]

The episode begins with Nermal watching a TV show and Garfield is angry at him. He throws Nermal into a trash can, who the latter tells Garfield that he'll be sorry for what he did, not before running away from a swarm of flies. In the kitchen, Jon becomes scared and frightened to death when he sees Squeak and calls Garfield to save him from Squeak, and Garfield does so as he and Squeak routine #8 as always. Jon becomes relieved and thanks Garfield for getting rid of Squeak and explains that he had a fear of mice when he was little. He and Garfield watch an advertisement about Dr. Whipple showing his Fear and Phobia Fighting Facility, which can cure over 10,000 common fears. Jon decides to go there to cure his fear.

At Dr. Whipple's office, Whipple shows Jon his phobia flusher, which can get rid of or add any fear. He uses it on Jon to get rid of "musophobia", which is the fear of mice, and it works and Jon is not afraid of mice anymore, although it doesn't change Garfield's job, so he doesn't want to see any of them. Whipple and Sandra use "gatophobia", which is the fear of cats, on Garfield, and it works. The three walk out of his office. While on the way home, Garfield sees Harry and becomes scared of him and tells him to go away. He then sees Arlene and runs away. At the city, he tries to escape from another cat. He finds Bruno, Lucky and Myron and runs off. He runs again when sees three other cats. Once more, he runs again when he sees Spring, Summer and Autumn. He grabs a mirror from another act and becomes scared of himself when he looks at it and drops the mirror, which is caught by the other cat. Back at the house, Nermal is watching TV and is seeing Garfield screaming. He decides to have fun with Garfield and his fear.

When Garfield made it back to the house, he hopes he doesn't run into any other cats, including himself. However, he runs outside when he sees Nermal. He runs to the park to catch his breath, but Nermal is there and chases Garfield throughout the city. Garfield runs into an alley and wonders where can he hide. Nermal suggests that he should hide with him. Garfield agrees, but becomes scared when he sees Nermal right by him. He begs Nermal to go away. Nermal says he will if he promises not to mail him to Abu Dhabi anymore. Even though it is Garfield's favorite thing, he reluctantly agrees. Garfield is unsure why he's scared of Nermal. Squeak shows him Dr. Whipple's invention. Garfield decides to borrow it. When he and Squeak got there, he manages to set to remove gatophobia on him, and it works and Garfield's no longer afraid of any cats, including himself. He decides to use it on Dr. Whipple and he zaps him, who the latter doesn't know what's going on.

Next, he uses it on Nermal, and it works. Nermal looks at this paws and screams. Garfield asks Nermal if he's scared of something. Nermal says he does but is unsure what it is. Garfield points out that he has "cute-ophobia", which is the fear of being too adorable. Nermal is too cute, he doesn't know what to do. Garfield says that Abu Dhabi has a different standard of adorable-ness. So Nermal releases Garfield from his promise and asks him to send him there, in which Garfield does. Squeak asks Garfield if he's gonna return that invention to Dr. Whipple. Garfield says that he'll have to remove the fear that he gave him, which is a new one he invented called "animate-ophobia", which is the fear of being in a cartoon show. Dr. Whipple finds out that he's in a cartoon show and tries to escape, but no matter where he goes, he's still in it. Garfield and Squeak both laugh as the episode ends.

  • This episode shares name with a 1975 Filmation television series[2], one 1942 Tom & Jerry short[3], and one Tom & Jerry Kids episode[4] and a Garfield and Friends episode [5].
  • One of the phobias Dr. Whipple claims he can cure on his TV ad is called, "zizzabottawaddawaddaboinkboinkfreebaphobia", which is based on the Zizzabottawaddawaddaboinkboinkfreebians from "Rip Van Kitty".
