Comic errors are mistakes made during the production of a comic strip. Various types of errors have appeared throughout the run of Garfield and Jim Davis' other strips.

Types of comic errors

Discoloring

Many modern versions of the comic strips use incorrect color(s), or discoloring. The most common example is when characters' eye(s) share the same color as their skin.

Drawing errors

Drawing errors are when a certain character or thing is depicted incorrectly, or when a body part is the wrong size or missing. The most common example is items disappearing.

Grammatical errors

Grammatical errors are when a word is misspelled. The most common examples are homophone words like to/two/too, there/their/they're and your/you're.

1970s

Second Panel: The chair disappears.

3rd, 5th, and 6th Panel: Color of the wall and floor switch.

Second Panel: Pattern on chair switches colors.

Third Panel: Jon's eyelids are uncolored.

Third Panel: Garfield's nose is uncolored.

Second and Third Panel: The barn is missing.

First Panel: Garfield's whiskers are missing.

First and Third Panel: Seven pancakes are shown, then turn into at least thirteen.

Third Panel: The word "fence" is misspelled as "fench."

First and Second Panel: Garfield's nose is uncolored.

Second Panel: Odie's right eye is the same color as his fur.

First Panel: Odie's right eye is the same color as his fur.

Third Panel: Jon says "your,", when the correct grammatical word in the context is "you're".

First Panel: Odie's left eye is discolored yellow.

Third and Sixth Panel: Odie's left eye is the same color as his fur.

Third Panel: The area to the right of Garfield's speech bubble is uncolored.

Second Panel: Garfield's bottom left eyelid is uncolored.

Error 2 in All Panels: The color of Liz's lips are inconsistent. Panel one has her upper lip pink and her lower one, red. Panel two has the colors reversed, and panel three has both her lips red.

Third Panel: Garfield's bottom left eyelid is uncolored.

Third Panel: Liz's eyelashes disappear.

Fifth Panel: Garfield turns on the hot water with the right tap, which is always for cold water.

Fourth Panel: A thought bubble is used for Jon instead of a speech bubble.

Third Panel: Odie's spot disappears.

Fourth Panel: Jon's dialogue appears from the right; in the next panel, he enters from the left.

First and Second Panel: The cup under the toaster changes from red to purple.

Third Panel: A speech bubble is used for Jon, instead of a thought bubble.

Garfield is shown on a green surface, which changes to a drawer.

Seventh Panel: Most of the black lines surrounding the panel, character and items are discolored blue, as well as two letters of Jim Davis's signature.

1990s

First Panel: The outer parts of Odie's eyes are the same color as his fur.

Second Panel: Liz's eyelashes disappear.

First Panel: Garfield's left whiskers are missing.

First and second panel: The television set has the same color as the floor in the third panel.

Second Panel: Garfield's whiskers are missing.

First and Third Panel: Liz's eyelashes disappear.

Fourth Panel: Liz's eyelashes disappear.

Third Panel: Liz is shown without eyelashes.

First Panel: Liz's eyelashes disappear.

Second Panel: The mirror shows Jon's tie as purple instead of blue.

First and Second Panel: The television remote's color scheme changes. A possible explanation for the television's dialogue directed from Garfield may be that he is reading the text from the screen.

Seventh Panel: Jon's tongue is discolored.

Second & Third Panel: The colors of the pennons change.

All Panels: Garfield's lips are discolored yellowish-green.

Second Panel: Garfield's nose is uncolored.

First Panel: The floor is missing.

First, Second, & Third Panel: Several letter Es in the word November are left unfinished.

Second Panel: Garfield's lips are uncolored.

Logo Box: The heart to Garfield's left is discolored yellow.

First Panel: Jon's skin is coloured purple, despite the lighting effect only occurring in panel three.

Third Panel: Garfield's lips are uncolored.

First Panel: A part of the branch is missing.

Second Panel: Garfield's lips are the same color as his fur.

Fourth, Fifth, Seventh, and Eighth Panel: Arlene incorrectly has a stripe on the tip of her tail.

First and Fourth Panel: The moon is shown as full, then changes to a waxing crescent.

Third Panel: The first small bubble leading up to Garfield's thought bubble is blue.

First and Third Panels: There is a small line of dotted orange pixels on the table.

All Panels: Garfield's lips have a greenish tinge.

Second Panel: Odie's tail is missing.

Third Panel: The line separating Jon's eyes and eyelids continues onto his face.

Third Panel: The color of the wall between Odie's ears are discolored dark green.

All Panels: Everything supposed to be colored white is the same color as the background.

First Panel: Grammatically, a comma should be added after the word "Odie."

Third Panel: In sequential order, it should be "Show and a Dinner."

2020s

First and Second Panels: Garfield's whiskers seem to be bigger than normal
