Eddie Lawrence (March 2, 1919 - March 25, 2014) was an American comedian and actor, among other occupations. His best known comedy routine was The Old Philosopher, a character known for giving quirky monologues (e.g. "Never give up, never give up, never give up...that ship!").
He also worked on Broadway shows, including Kelly (which he wrote) and Sherry!, and movies, such as The Night They Raided Minsky's. He was briefly a children's television host on New York's WPIX Channel 11 (which also featured Chuck McCann) and the announcer for a television commercial for the Harry Nilsson album Pussy Cats (which was produced by John Lennon).
He did voiceover work in theatrical shorts produced by Paramount Cartoon Studios (aka Famous Studios) in the 1960s, most notably portraying the titular characters of Swifty and Shorty.
