Cupid Cat ( Donnie, Gloria et moi) is 27thUS/22ndEU episode from the third season of The Garfield Show.
Synopsis[]
After Jon convinces him, Doc Boy decides to come to the city to look for love. His rustic and uncharming behavior, however, cause things to go out of control.
Plot[]
Jon and his pets are visiting the Arbuckle Farm. While Jon is enjoying the visit, and Garfield remains in contention over it, Jon expresses his concern over Doc Boy's constant, almost excessive hard work, and as such, considers if Doc Boy needs a companion. Later on, Doc Boy and his guests are sitting together at the living room table. After Jon hands his mobile phone to Garfield to amuse himself, he notices Doc Boy still actively working: doing calculations, using his feet to cook an omelette, and using a rope tied around him to force apples to fall from their tree into baskets. Jon suggests to his brother that he needs a woman to act as a companion in his life, which Doc Boy refutes, claiming that the farm work and location negates any time for a woman.
Just then, Gloria, the courier to Doc Boy's farm, arrives to deliver pizza to the farmhouse, ordered by Garfield from Jon's phone. Gloria, attempts to make conversation with Doc Boy, asking if he's seen the new monster movie at the drive-in. Doc Boy openly expresses his distaste, and immediately returns to the house, much to Gloria's obvious disappointment. While picking corn, Jon continues to try convince Doc Boy that not only is it unnatural to live life alone, but that Gloria was interested in him; Doc Boy, again, shrugs this off. While on his way to go plow the northern field, he picks an apple and throws it backwards, unintentionally hitting Jon. This pushes Jon over the edge, and he calls Garfield to return home, declaring to Doc Boy that he doesn't want to watch the latter spend the rest of his life picking apples alone.
In the middle of the night, Doc Boy phones Jon to ask what the "three most wonderful words" are, something Jon mentioned while still on the farm, which Jon sleepily replies are "I love you". Despite initial confusion, Doc Boy begins to consider the potential in having a companion, and the next day, he arrives at Jon's house, declaring his plans to stay over until he finds the "love of his life" having gotten his friend, Elmer, to look after the farm in the meantime. Despite initial excitement from Jon, he and his pets find Doc Boy testing them; his cooking proves awful, his farm-related programs bore the rest of the household, and his excessive snoring keeps everyone awake. As a result, Garfield vents to Odie that they need to find Doc Boy a companion and get him out their house.
The next morning, Doc Boy goes downtown to look for a woman, followed by Garfield and Odie. Blissfully unaware of social norms, he shamelessly approaches a random woman to strike up conversation, but his gusto and clumsiness prevent anything further. Undeterred, he goes into a clothing store to buy himself an outfit. Garfield initially sees this as a positive development until Doc Boy exits in an unmatching, gaudy outfit, which Garfield compares to Binky the Clown. Later, entering in the park, Doc Boy notices, and offers to hold a woman's dog for her while she ties her shoe lace. She allows him to, but warns that dog gets aggressive when he sees a cat. Garfield, interested in the exchange, jumps out from a bush into sight. The dog notices Garfield and starts to chase the latter, pulling Doc Boy with. After Garfield ends the pursuit by climbing up a lamp post, the woman angrily takes back her dog and leaves.
Doc Boy admits to Garfield that he wishes he had a magic potion which allowed women to like him. Garfield disregards this, opining that it's a matter of people enjoying each other's company. However, Doc Boy notices an ad for "Phillipe's cologne", a scent purporting to make the wearer irresistible to women, which he purchases. Much to Garfield and Odie's shock, the fragrance does attract a group of women, causing Doc Boy to run away overwhelmed. One of the women finds him hiding behind a tree, and enthralled with the scent, she announces she is glad to go out with him until both are interrupted by her enraged, muscular boyfriend, Henry.
Later, Jon is driving a battered Doc Boy back to the farm, the latter having ended the venture after only a day. Returning to the farm, Doc Boy finds Gloria waiting for him, holding flowers and a letter. She believes the letter, which asks her on a date to the monster movie, to have been written by him. Jon figures that Garfield used his cellphone to order flowers for Gloria, and commends Garfield for it. Garfield's final conclusion is that one should allow happiness find them, rather than the other way around.
