The Chickens are recurring characters from Garfield cartoons, especially Garfield and Friends. They mostly appear in the U.S. Acres segments, where they have their own coop. They were later shown in The Garfield Show.
Physical appearance[]
Garfield and Friends[]
Most of the hens in the cartoon are of the same breed as Roy. Apart from typical differences, a variety amongst their designs can be observed between the U.S. Acres seasons - the hens in "Cock-A-Doodle Duel" episode sport gray necks, two-piece head wattles resembling a beret, and much simpler legs than roosters. The hens seen in "Gross Encounters" episode have overall white feathers and triple head wattles, as well as considerably more detailed legs.
At least once in the series, the chickens appeared dressed in the late 1960s female fashion, composed of red skirts, light blue turtleneck sweaters, and white sneakers with red soles.
The Garfield Show[]
The chickens have undergone major redesign in the new cartoon. They received much rounder bodies with pinkish feathers and brown neck and head areas.
Personality[]
Despite being farm animals, the hens are capable of enjoying sophisticated forms of entertainment, which is shown in "Cock-A-Doodle Duel".
Trivia[]
- In most of the U.S. Acres episodes, the hens do not actually speak. Instead, they communicate by clucking.
