Part 4 begins with a quick recap: Odie turned into a bat, Garfield rescuing him, Varicella being released, and the three relics our heroes need to find. Garfield, Odie, Abigail and Winona have reached the Gnarly Forest but the trees there are not taking too kindly to visitors. They try to grab the protagonists in their branches but Abigail manages to dodge their attempts, and the three animals do the same, Garfield by jumping on Odie's back. Abigail can't avoid the trees forever, though, as one of them has her in its clutches. She finds her wand and uses magic to get it to release her, but there are just too many trees and they soon have the heroes surrounded. Just as all hope seems lost, the young witch in training spots something...

Abigail: There it is! The broom of sorrow! (It sits perfectly balanced on its stick on the top of the tallest tree in the forest, which also has a vine wrapped around it)

Garfield: Well, that's that. Who is their right mind would agree to climb all the way up that giant tree? (They make a run for it. Abigail and Winona dodge under one of the trees roots, while the pets leap over the top. Abigail and Winona climbs the tree with the broom on top just as the pets run up to its base. Garfield turns to the audience) Anyone wanna give me a boost? (Garfield climbs up the tree, his claws bared. Odie follows, leaping up the side) I can't believe I let them talk me into this! (He pants and grunts as he scales it) The things I'll do to avoid eating fly lasagna. (They reach the vine Abigail is standing on, and they leap on it. All four of them look up at the broom)

Odie: Whoa! (The trees refuse to quit, and their branches swipe at the main quartet, knocking Garfield and Abigail down. Odie gets whacked up toward the broom)

Garfield and Abigail: AAAAHHHH! (Garfield lands on a different part of the vine, but Abigail continues falling)

Winona: Abigail! (She shoots her tongue out and grabs Abigail before she hits the ground. Garfield holds on to the frog)

Garfield: Oh, this is not good, not good at all! (She dangles as more tree limbs close in around her)

(Odie, meanwhile, clings for dear life to something standing upright. He quakes with fear)

Odie: Whimpering (He opens his eyes and looks up) Huh? (He realizes he is gripping the Broom of Sorrow)

Abigail: (who's still dangling) Garfield! Garfield, help me!

Garfield: Abigail's in trouble. I have to do something! (He notices a branch approaching him) Never mind Abigail right now. (It grabs him and Winona) I'm in trouble!

Abigail: Oh!

(Up above, Odie reaches for the top of the broom, when a pair of branches show up on either side of him)

Odie: (Panicked) Bark! (He scoots up the broom, which becomes unbalanced under his weight. It tips over, avoiding the tree limbs, and both of them start plummeting toward the ground) AAAAHHHH! (The broom then stops falling and floats next to the tree. Odie hangs on for dear life, and realizes he has stopped falling. He looks to the ground far below) Oh? (He looks up)

Abigail: Garfield! Help!

Garfield: (struggling to free himself from the tree's grip) Hang on, Abigail! (He grunts)

Odie: Ta-da! (Garfield glances up and sees the pup on the flying broom, his front paws in the air and a smile on his face. Before Abigail can be nabbed by a pair of limbs on both sides of her, Odie's newfound broom rescues the cat and frog, who in turn rescue the young witch, causing the branches to grab each other)

Abigail: You did it, Garfield! You saved us and you found the Broom of Sorrow!

Garfield: I do something heroic once a year. (He turns to the audience) This is it for a while. (The broom parks them on the vine leading to the forest)

Winona: Where do we go next? (Her cousin opens the book to find out)

Abigail: To the Underworld! That's where we'll find the Mercury Slippers!

Garfield, Odie, and Winona: Oh! (Understandably, none of them seem keen on travelling to a place called "The Underworld")

(Varicella, meanwhile, remains in the castle, brewing a green potion that allows her to peek in on Abigail's progress. She sees the animals gasp in horror)

Varicella: One artifact, two to go, I'll just wait for these fools to do all the dirty work and then I'll help myself to what I need. (She cackles, before coughing again)

(The trio of animals and the lone witch fly on their new broom)

Garfield: Any idea where we are?

Abigail: The Broom of Sorrows knows the way. (They float to another hovering island. This one has a single structure that resembles a hill with a single door in the middle of it and an odd yellow whisp floating above the hill. They land, get off the broom, and stand at the door)

Garfield: So what are we waiting for? Let's grab those slippers, then swing by Vito's for some cannolis on the way back.

Winona: There's a slight complication. We need a magic spell to get us through this door.

Garfield: Well then, cast one, and let's get in and out of this place.

Winona: I can't. I'm a frog, remember? (She croaks) Abigail will have to do it.

Abigail: I'm not a real witch yet. Every spell I've cast has only made things worse.

Winona: (standing next to her) I believe in you, Abigail.

Odie: Bark! Bark!

Garfield: (putting his arm around the pooch) Odie believes in you, too! So do I! I'm not sure why, but I do.

Abigail: I'll try. (She opens the book and reads the spell) Zibbety-Zak! Zibbety-Zak! Ringela-Ringela-Loof-Loof! (They wait for the door to open with anxious looks on their faces. Nothing seems to happen. Abigail sighs) I could never be a good witch. I couldn't even be a BAD witch. I should turn in my wand. (Just then, the ground starts rumbling)

Garfield and Abigail: AAAHHH! (Odie leaps into Garfield's arms as the door opens)

Garfield: (with Odie hopping out of his grasp) Hey, you're a better witch than you think, kid.

Odie: Bark! Bark!

Winona: Follow me into the underworld. Walk this way.

Garfield: You mean, HOP this way.

(The quartet enter through the doorway. Winona leads, with Abigail, Garfield, and Odie following. Several ghosts peek out from the ground and the walls, all the while from behind, so as to go unnoticed by anyone. They walk down a long flight of stairs, approaching a rock shaped like an open-mouthed skull. At the bottom of the stairs, another ghost rises up next to Odie, who sees it and yowls in fear, hugging Abigail for protection. Many other ghosts surround them, and Odie covers his eyes with his ears in fear)

Ghost 1: Look, guests. (He and the other ghosts laugh) Welcome.

Odie: Mumbles (Garfield runs to the other side of Abigail)

Garfield: Well put!

Ghost Leader: Welcome to the Underworld! Make yourself comfy! Eternity is a long time, especially towards the end!

Garfield: (walking backwards) Don't mind us, we're just... passing through! (As he says this last line, a ghost literally passes through him. Other ghosts around start laughing) What's so funny?

Ghost 2: You can't be just, (he chuckles) passing through. (He laughs harder. Odie whimpers slightly, still terrified)

Ghost Leader: Once you enter the Underworld...

Ghost 3: (putting a finger under Abigail's chin) You never leave!

Odie: Huh? Oh!

Ghosts: (Chanting) You never leave! You never leave! You never leave! (They laugh. Garfield and Odie's legs shake, as both of them are downright petrified)

Garfield: AAAHH! (The ghost leader starts singing)

Ghost Leader: To be the perfect ghost,

This should be uppermost:

(The main quartet turns and runs, screaming. The Ghost Leader pops up in front of them on the stairs, freezing them in their tracks)

You need to shriek,

Practice every week.

(He scares a random innocent bystander)

Just learn to moan,

make an unearthly groan!

(He freaks out the main four again, who are thoroughly exhausted of this. He holds ghost chains)

An eerie noise

Frightens girls and boys.

(He appears between a man and woman, and they flee almost instantly)

To see them run

Is so much fun!

(Garfield and the others chuckle nervously and nod their heads)

And so to sneak up and yell "BOO!"

(The Ghost Leader appears twice in front of a panic-ridden group of people. They promptly pass out after the second time)

Is still a thing to do.

I make the doors creak,

Make skeletons speak,

To rattle some chains,

Does not require brains!

(He clangs a pair of cymbals together, startling an elderly woman and causing her to run out of the house. He watches and chuckles to himself)

So what do you fear?

I'll make sure it is here!

(He appears in front of five people at a bus stop. They all see him and pass out)

I enjoy the fear and freight,

Scaring people left and right,

(The bus arrives. He gets on and terrifies the passengers by making a face at them. They all scream and flee in terror)

I could do this every night!

And so to sneak up and yell "BOO!"

Is still the thing to do.

(He pops up and frightens a few more people before the scene switches back to the underworld. He floats down from inside the skull-like rock)

You might think it's mean,

The meanest thing you've ever seen,

But thanks to my routine,

Each day's Halloween!

(The other ghosts applaud, while the pets and Abigail also faint. The scene switches to the main entrance for a few seconds before returning to the main characters and the ghosts)

Garfield: Once you enter the Underworld, you never ever leave, huh? And just when were you planning on telling us this?

Winona: Ugh, one worry at a time. Let's focus on finding the Mercury Slippers.

Ghost 2: The Mercury Slippers?

Ghost Leader: You want the Mercury Slippers?

Ghost 3: Can't we show you something and a nice pair of sandals?

Ghost Leader: If you want the Mercury Slippers, you must prove yourselves worthy.

Ghost 1: You must pass a test,

Ghost 2: A hard test,

Ghost 3: A test of bravery.

Garfield: A test of bravery? Well, I'm outta here. (He bolts for the stairs and starts sneaking up them. But before he can get too far, the Ghost Leader appears in front of him, freezing the fat cat in his tracks)

Ghost Leader: You must pass the test. You must overcome your deepest fears!

Garfield: Why me? Why not one of them? (He gestures toward his friends)

Ghost 2: Is says right here: (he reads from a scroll) "The test must be of he with the greatest body weight".

Garfield: Where does it say that? (Ghost 2 whips out a quill pen and writes on the scroll before showing it to Garfield) Well, as long as it's in writing...

(The ghosts take Garfield to a large Sphinx-like statue. Two ghosts of lions, one red and one green, growl in front of the Sphinx's paws before they notice the tubby tabby. They watch as he approaches)

Ghost Leader: The Idol of Id here will probe your memory for your deepest fears!

Red Lion: It will show them to you, and if you can face them down,

Ghost 2: You may take home the Mercury Slippers!

Ghost Leader: And if you fail, we have some lovely parting gifts for you,

Ghost 1: Except that you won't be parting.

Ghost 2: You'll be staying here for all eternity! Let's play! (The Red Lion roars, and the trial begins. A voice speaks to Garfield from offscreen)

Voice: Here is what the Idol sees you fear most in the world! (Visions of Jon appear before him)

Jon: Garfield, the TV set is broken. (He holds up a TV from decades past) Drucilla and Minerva are here to visit. (Visions of the twins appear in front of Jon)

Twins: Kitty cat! (Garfield winces, slowly getting more and more scared)

Jon: From now on, I'm only serving health food. (He pulls out a plate from behind his back) Want some tofu? (Garfield turns and runs, only to see another vision of his owner) There's a spider here. Oh no, it's two spiders! (He pulls out another spider from behind his back) Oh, it isn't two spiders, it's 23 spiders! (He holds 21 more in front of Garfield. The frightened feline runs again and leaps onto another vision of Jon) Aunt Ivy's outside with an awful lot of luggage.

Garfield: AAHHH!

Jon: Garfield, it's Monday.

Garfield: AAAHHHH! (He jumps down and flees in fear. He runs in front of a giant version of Jon)

Jon: Nermal is moving in to live with us forever.

Garfield: AAAAAHHHH! (He sprints into the camera. His next scene shows him clinging to Abigail and screaming like a baby) AAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH!!!!!

Odie: Oh, Whimpers (He hugs Garfield in an attempt to comfort him)

Ghost Leader: Oh, sorry, you didn't win.

Ghost 1: But you will enjoy it here, forever!

Garfield: (pointing at the ghost) Hey, being afraid of some things is just common sense. Everyone's afraid of SOMETHING.

Ghost 2: (hanging upside-down above them) Not us. We're ghosts.

Ghost Leader: Nothing scares us!

Ghost 1: Even we don't scare us. (He grins confidently)

Garfield: Oh yeah? Well if I can scare you, will you let us go, and give us the Mercury Slippers?

(The main three look at each other)

Ghosts: (in unison) It's a deal!

Garfield: (to the witch-in-training) Now that you're getting good at spells, could you conjure up something for me?

Abigail: Well, I'll try. What is it?

Garfield: Well, (He whispers indistinctly into her ear)

Abigail: OK, here goes. Ralfor-Salfor-Poof! (Garfield smirks as Abigail recites the spell)

(A page of the newspaper appears above them, the front page and not the funnies. Garfield grabs it and hands it to the ghosts)

Garfield: (from offscreen) Here, today's newspaper. (back onscreen) Read it and see what it says is going on in my world. It'll all happen here eventually.

Ghost Leader: What's so scary about that? It's just a newspaper.

Ghost 1: (reading) War, economic collapse, anger, taxes, (Garfield chuckles and grins sinisterly at his friends) weather, what's on TV this week, (The screen focuses on Garfield, who still has an evil look on his face) our leaders... (upon reading this, the ghosts look at each other)

Ghosts: AAAAHHHHH! (They take off in different directions, horrified at the current events)

Garfield: Wait! We had a deal! You promised us the Mercury Slippers!

Odie: Bark!

Ghost 2: They're right over there, on those feet! AAHAHA! (He leaves, still in a panic. Garfield and the rest of the gang turn and notice a house crushing a body, except for the legs, and the Slippers still on the feet)

Abigail: Gasp! The Mercury Slippers!

Odie: (with his tongue out) Whoa!

(The heroes run up to them, with Abigail leading the way. She takes a couple of steps toward them)

Garfield: Now we have the Broom of Sorrow AND the Mercury Slippers!

Odie: Mm-hmm.

Garfield: Wait, hole the phone, where is the Broom of Sorrow? (Odie, the last one to have it, winces and whimpers as he looks at Garfield, realizing he no longer has it)

Abigail: (turning around to face the slippers, only to see that they have disappeared) Oh, and where are the Mercury Slippers?

Winona: (hopping on one of the feet where the slippers were) I'm afraid they're over there. (She points, and Varicella is seen dancing with the slippers on and the broom in her hands)

Varicella: And don't they look WONDERFUL on me! (She laughs as Abigail approaches before coughing again. Garfield and Odie look on in panicked disbelief. They start to quiver in fear, and part 4 comes to a close)
