A Matter of Conscience is an episode from the seventh season of Garfield and Friends.
Synopsis[]
A cricket looking for work talks Garfield into letting him be his conscience after showing him the book "Pinocchio". Garfield's new-found conscience gets him into more trouble.
Plot[]
At the Arbuckle residence, Garfield starts his day by completing his mischievous to-do list, including kicking Odie off the table and eating everything in the refrigerator. Jon catches Garfield eating his dinner and chases him around the house. Outside, a cricket, frustrated by lack of work, observes the chaos. After Jon throws Garfield into the flowers, he questions if Garfield has a conscience, prompting the cricket to intervene.
Introducing himself as "Ichabod Cricket," the freelance conscience, the cricket shows Garfield a book about Pinocchio adopting a cricket as his conscience. Worried about Disney's reaction, Ichabod convinces Garfield to try having a conscience for a day. Jon asks Garfield to play with Odie, and after some persuasion, Garfield launches Odie into the air using a makeshift rocket. Odie crashes into Jon's lasagna, leading to another chase.
Elsewhere, Irving Burnside drops a steak, which Garfield tries to eat before Ichabod stops him, insisting he return it. Burnside believes Garfield stole the steak and chases him. At a traffic light, Ichabod prevents Garfield from crossing until it's safe, but Burnside catches up, and a scuffle ensues. Garfield escapes and seeks refuge in a room marked "Do Not Enter," only to find it's a kennel where he is attacked by dogs.
Exhausted, Garfield returns home, where Ichabod scolds him for not listening. Garfield reads from the Pinocchio book that Pinocchio crushed the cricket. He then grabs a rake and chases Ichabod down the street, trying to squish him.
