I don't want to start a looooong topic. I just wanna say, yes Garfield and Friends is a great show, i DO like later seasons.. But i do think the show kinda went downhill.. here's why:
-Season 3 was one of the best seasons of the show. There were lots of funny episodes, my favourite was "Mistakes WIll Happen". However, the biggest flaw was introducing the Buddy Bears. Nobody cares about them and they are so damn annoying! And another reason why i don't like them.. Is that Mark Evanier decided to break the "animals in garfield segments don't talk" rule and decided to add actual talking animals into the show. However, this isn't much of a problem, those bears only showed up in like 15 episodes (which isn't much) in the whole show.. Well.. the buddy bears weren't alone.. We also had Ichabod Cricket, Sidney the Pink Dinosaur. There were some animal characters who were shown speaking to humans
-Most recurring characters were retired.. Binky the Clown? He was a recurring character in the first two seasons, he had his own episode in season 3, and then.. he disappeared! All of his appearances in later seasons were nothing but cameos.. The last episode where he shows up is the Feline Philosopehr.. and even then, he appeared for like, 11 seconds. A lot of recurring characters, who aren't Nermal or Floyd completely disappeared. Cactus Jake is another example.
-The fourth wall breaks.. were sooo overused, especially in Season 6 and 7. I don't mind the fourth wall breaks, but i think this show has overdone this TROPE to death. They weren't so frequent in the first two seasons imo.
-The plots got more bizarre. Mark Evanier himself admitted they were kinda running out of ideas..
What i'm saying is, i do like the later seasons, but the biggest flaws are: the plots became more bizarre, almost every episode was oversaturated with fourth wall breaks, all of the side characters who weren’t Nermal or Floyd got retired, and overall people felt that the last seasons six and seven didn’t have the same charm of the first five.
